The Starfish is common enemy that may appear in the Atlantic Waters, Frozen Waters, Dark Depths and Ancient Abyss and their caves.

Description[]

Starfish are star-shaped echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. The Starfish found in We Need To Go Deeper seem to be from the Asterias rubens species, also simply known as "Common Starfish": they have 5 legs and a brown coloration and a line of short white spines running along the centre of the aboral (upper) surface of the arms with low, soft mounds called papulae on either side.

Behavior[]

The Starfish will try to get in the submarine by swimming into it, but can be blocked by shields. Once inside, it will try to attach itself to the face of an unlucky crewmember and will release enzymes to digest its victim, periodically damaging them. The only way to remove it afterwards is by killing it. Additionally, the starfish cannot be hurt by the player it's attached to, meaning that they will need help from a crewmate to remove it from their face. Additionally, when in caves, they will sometimes be hanging onto the ceiling, and will drop down once someone passes under them.

Tactics[]

The Starfish can be incredibly dangerous to small crews, as it can easily kill someone if they do cannot get help from their crewmembers. Thus, the best way to deal with the starfish is using a ranged weapon or making sure your crewmates are nearby in case it sticks to your face.
